Appearance: Hotaru is most definitely average in terms of height, and is a fit, fast wolf, thus making her weight just a little under the average for a wolf of her age. Although most red wolves have somewhat orange, flame-like markings, hers are a much softer, almost rusted red hue. Heck, some may even describe it as a brownish coat colour. As well as this, her pelt consists solely of this colour, unlike most red wolves, who have red splodges atop of grey-white fur. However, during the summer months, the fluff around her neck and her underbelly can turn slightly lighter, although it's only just noticeable.
Flickering like excited flames, her eyes are an amber hue that can shine an almost pure orange colour under certain lightings—usually at night. Her tail is long and fluffy, and her ears are almost always pointed and alert. Yes, her ears are also exceptionally fluffy. In fact, basically her entire stature—especially around her neck, which serves well for warmth—is fluffy and soft, although underneath she really is quite lean and fit, as well as also being fairly muscular, but not as much as you'd expect from a male.
Personality: Despite having been alive for a few years, if you see Ru, a word that would most likely come to mind is 'youth'. Energetic and curious, she's undoubtably fast on her paws, which was probably why she was assigned the position of Vendetta. However, despite seeming quite youthful, she's in no way child-like, and is quite intelligent and quick-witted, allowing her to think fast on her feet, which comes in very useful when she's hunting.
Branching off from her intelligence, Hotaru has a great sense of self, and takes pride in the fact that she knows herself very well. Due to this high-level understanding, she's good at reading others emotions, thoughts, and feelings. If something's off about you on a particular day, or something may be wrong, no doubt she'll pick up on it. However, she won't just pick up on it; she'll endeavour to help you. For, you see, she's exceptionally friendly, and wants nothing more than her pack to be happy, despite the hard and confusing times.
As well as being quick-witted, she's also undoubtably calm under pressure, and just generally has a calm, warm, and friendly aura about her. However, a downside of her personality is that although she can be very outgoing and cheery, it's fairly difficult to become her friend in the first place. Hotaru likes to venture off alone when she's hunting, thanks to her curious streak, which can often isolate her from her pack, and she may not even encounter another pack member until the very end of the day, when she returns back to camp.
Generally she's distrustful of those she doesn't know so well, and although she'll take the necessary time to calmly evaluate an individual, it often takes a while for her to finally come to the conclusion that somebody is worth keeping close. Once she's warmed up to you, however, her otherwise isolated front will melt away, revealing a fairly sweet and friendly wolf underneath.
History: Hotaru was born to two loving parents, and had a fairly happy childhood filled with exciting adventures and friends. In fact, she can't recall a single bad thing happening until The Bad Day, as she called it back then. On said day, her father was banished from the pack for provoking a fight, seeing as he had a particularly short temper at the worst of times. Thank God Ru and her mother didn't share that same personality trait, otherwise they all might've been banished on the thoughts that they too might start a fight if angry enough.
Ru's childhood took a turn for the worse, as most of her friends—and their families—turned against her and her mother, looking down on them as someone from their lineage had been banished. Despite Ru's mother knowing that her mate had done wrong, she still mourned for him, wishing she was allowed to see him again. The red pup, however, was a little too young to fully understand why Dad was gone, but she sure as hell understood that she'd been betrayed by almost everyone she'd ever held close.
Her friends had left her. When she asked if they wanted to play, they'd walk away, whispering amongst themselves about how she may 'turn on them if irritated', like her father before her. This part of her childhood made her realize some of the harsh realities of the world, and made her extremely distrustful of strangers or people she didn't know very well. It also made her prone to evaluating others thoroughly before she'd even come close to considering them friends. It was such a shame, as Hotaru had and still has such a cheery and sunny deposition, but because of her trust issues she can't show it around most.
Not being allowed to join in with others, she instead opted for other ways of entertaining herself. For example, she'd pretend to be a warrior, charging around and killing all in sight. The afternoons spent of running around the territory made her extremely fit, and the games made her ever curious of the world around her. Because she had so much time alone, she began teaching herself how to hunt, and became extremely skilled at such a task, as she still is today, which led to her being assigned a hunter role.
Due to her old friends having grown up a bit and realizing that her father's actions weren't anything to do with her or her fault, they've since tried to become her friend again, but it just seems that this red wolf isn't really interested. Sure, she'd force herself to put on a polite smile and talk for a while, but she isn't really going to jump back into relationships with others, seeing as every single one of them went so badly downhill when she was younger. You see, it's not that she holds it against those canines—she's not the type to hold a grudge—it's simply the fact that if something like that can happen once, it could easily happen again, so she's just decided to be extremely careful about who she decides to hold close and dear.
Family: Her mother—Scorpa—is now elderly, but they're still very close. Her father was banished, and is presumed dead by now, due to how difficult it is to survive as a loner.
