This is an explanation of each rank, about them, and what they do. This is handy if you're requesting/challenging a rank to know what the rank is.
They are the leaders of the pack, and the highest rank. They are to be obeyed at all times, and their order comes first. They hold the pack together and make the rules. The can promote or demote dogs/wolves any time they want, for any reason so long as it's valid, and can accept or deny canines at the border. They can also banish pack members from lands and organize pack meetings. They are a mated rank, no matter what in every pack. They are challengable, and cannot deflect a challenge.
They are the right-paw-canines the the Alpha(s), and have second say in everything. They are the second highest rank, and command all ranks other than Alpha. They take care of the pack if the Alpha is away, and take care of problems and issues in the pack that don't require the Alpha's presence. They can accept and deny canines at the border, and call pack hunts and minor meetings. They are a mated rank, and are challengeable. They cannot deflect a challenge.
They are basically the apprentices of either the Alpha or Beta, and basically Beta in training. They have training sessions with whomever is their mentor, and though they are the third high rank, they aren't much different from a young apprentice, only with more power. They are also the peacemakers within the pack, if Betas or Alphas aren't around to solve the problem. They can organize smaller hunts without the whole pack, and accept and deny canines at the border, and command and are to be obeyed by the lower ranks. They are not a mated rank, but they can be if both Deltas request and win the rank. They are challengeable, but can deflect a challenge with permission from the Alpha. Otherwise, they have to fight for their rank.
They are the Lead Warriors, and the fourth highest rank, and the first middle rank. They don't hold control over other lead ranks, even if they're above them, but are in charge of the Warriors. They can train Warriors if requested, and even make them their Apprentice if they wish. They can hold group Warrior training sessions, and are to be obeyed by Warriors. They can accept and deny canines at the border. They are not a mated rank, but they can be if two mates challenge and win this rank. They are a challengeable rank, but can deflect a challenge with permission from an Alpha or Beta.
Guardians are the Lead Scouts, and the fifth rank. Unlike Gammas, they hold minor control over Warriors. If they don't have enough Guardians or Scouts to cover a round shift, they can take Warriors to help them guard when needed. They rank over Scouts, and are specifically in charge of training them. Guardians go hand-in-hand with Gammas, and often consult each other about the safety of the pack, and how they would deflect an attack from an enemy. Unlike other, aforementioned ranks, there can be up to four Guardians of any gender. They can accept or deny canines at the border, and are to obeyed by Scouts. They are a challengeable rank, but can deflect a challenge with permission from an Alpha or Beta.
Vendetta's are the Lead Hunters, the sixth rank. They rank over hunters, and in charge of making sure the whole pack is fed. They cannot accept or deny ranks without specific allowance from the Alpha, and are not a mated rank. They are usually the best hunters in the pack, or one of the best, and can call hunts with most of the pack. They are to be obeyed by Hunters. They are a challengeable rank, and cannot deflect a challenge.
Medics are the Lead Healers and Caretakers of the pack. They rank over healers, and are in charge of training apprentices or new Healers the ropes of herbs and healing supplies. They cannot accept or deny ranks, but can bring seriously injured canines into pack territories if they really believe their worthy of healing. They are not a mated rank, and are the best or most experienced Healers in the pack. They are not a challengeable rank, Medic must be earned.
These are the fighters of the pack, the offence. They attack other packs, or fight with attackers so the others can secure the territory. This is one of the base ranks, a starter place for newcomers in the pack. They can only accept members if they have been in the pack for at least a season, and are given permission from an Alpha and Beta. They are not a challengeable rank, Warrior must be earned.
Another starter rank, these are the canines in charge of hunting and providing food for the pack, along with Vendettas. They have to faithfully hunt for the pack, even in the freezing climates of winter, or the scorching temperatures of summer. They cannot accept or deny canines, but can take Apprentices if they wish. They are not a challengeable rank, Hunter must be earned.
Scouts are once again a base placement, and are in charge of watching over and protecting the wolves/dogs in the pack. They often patrol in shifts, some at night, some in the day, making sure no one is invading the territories. They scout and guard any time of year, no matter how cold or hot, which is why shifts switch off so often. They cannot accept or deny canines into the pack, but can bring loners to the Alpha or Beta and guard them while they attempt to join. They are not a challengeable rank, Scout must be earned.
The last rank open to freely join when new to the pack, the healers look after ill, injured, or old canines, and have a vast knowledge of herbs to aid them. They each have separate dens for patients, and have to go out and explore for healing herbs quite often. They cannot accept canines into the pack, and there must be at least one healer in pack lands at all times. They are not a challengeable rank, Healer must be earned.
Apprentices are the young canines, under age one and six months, that have yet to choose their rank. They have to chose to be an apprentice of what their most interested in, then be assigned a trainer to help them study and learn about the path they chose, whether it is Hunter, Warrior, Healer, or Scout. Once they are one and a half, they are given their full ranks, officially part of the pack. They are not a challengeable rank, only earned by age.
Juveniles or Pups are the canines under the age of seven months with no rank yet. They still den with their mother, and cannot leave pack territories for any reason. They are to be protected at all costs, and taken in, even if from a rival pack.
Omegas are the last and lowest rank in the pack, disgraced and abused. They have done something to majorly upset the higher ranks, or were born into omegacy, and have yet to prove they're worth being in the pack. They walk a thin line, and can be exiled if they disobey even one more time. Just as well as they can be hated, they can also be the secondary peacemakers of the pack, to cheer others up.
