And another door opens...

A perpetual smile graced Harlow's black lips as she trotted through the stream with dainty steps. It had been too long since she had come across such an abundance of fresh water, and this stream was just what she needed to wash away some of the stresses she carried along her journey. Her decision to leave her original place of rest was, of course, the obvious; a depleting supply of food and water. The restful nights started to turn into the worst time to let her guard down, and the old, windowless car wasn't exactly the most protected place to sleep. She became lonely, too, horribly so. No one ever considered Harlow to be overly sociable, but even loners needed a friendly voice to hear every once in a while. Against what were probably her best interests, Harlow set out in search of....something. She wasn't exactly sure what, but she needed a change, that was for damn sure. Stumbling upon a stream was an extra big bonus, and it probably meant that there was life close by, too.
With her nose to the ground, she stepped out of the stream and searched for a scent of something living, maybe a rabbit or a mouse, or something else small and edible. But instead of prey, the scent of other canines filled her nostrils. Shocked, she paused for a moment, wondering if it was safe to keep going in this direction. The scent certainly wasn't threatening. In fact, there was more than one scent. She caught whiffs of male and female dogs, some of them multiple times. She could tell that this land was frequented.
A pack of them? She thought to herself, moving slowly now. This could mean food...family. She cringed at the word family. No one could ever replace what she lost, but she could sure as hell try. For fear of trespassing, she stopped where she was and sat down tentatively. She let out a few short barks, which she worried were not loud enough. She was always taught to be quiet, so as not to disturb the cattle she had to herd.
